"True health is only possible when we understand the unity of our minds, emotions, spirits and physical bodies."
~ Dr. Christiane Northrup

Each and every one of has a unique potential to create our life beyond imagination ~ to live with passion and purpose and to achieve all that we want. If you could create your ultimate life, what would it look like? Dream BIG! Dream REALLY BIG!!! Now, what if you could take that dream and turn it into your reality? What’s holding you back? By focusing on making subtle shifts, you can start creating the life you want today.
True health and vitality is about physical well-being ~ through eating well and being active ~ and it's also about self-acceptance, finding focus to live from a place of power and positivity, having resilience and confidence, being self-aware, finding inner peace and harmony, and having fun...enormous amounts of fun!!! Now is the time to get excited about your life! This is something you get to do just for you!
To truly live a full life, we need to focus on all four areas of our well-being: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
Mental Well-being
Learn to make your thoughts work for you. Having positive thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes are vital in getting what we want from life and are the biggest determining factors for how we interpret the world around us. They create our feelings which in turn affect our actions and behaviors in any given situation. If you find you are not always getting the outcomes you desire, you may want to take an in-depth look at your thoughts to determine what is and isn’t working for you.
Our thoughts, perceptions, and core beliefs create our existence, but they do not have to define who we are. If you are living life day-to-day, feeling like something is missing or could be improved upon, it may be time to take a closer look at those thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs that are outdated and limiting the health and happiness you are destined to experience.
Becoming conscious of unhelpful thought distortions and knowing how to alter them allows you to shift to more desirable thoughts. The possibilities are endless once you learn how to change the way you think and start believing in yourself.
Emotional Well-being
Our emotional well-being is greatly linked to our mental state because our thoughts shape our feelings and vice versa. Emotions are a wonderful thing. There are so many different reactions for every emotion and without them, life would be pretty dull. They animate our personality and make us the interesting beings that we are. They define our very existence and the way we communicate with others.
It’s important to learn how to manage our emotions and find balance so that we neither hide from them, nor allow them to dominate our actions. Too often we strongly identify with them and allow them to fester in compulsive ways, like addictions, sleep disturbances, eating habits, or some other maladaptive behavior.
Many people are taught from a young age that certain emotions are not acceptable. Contrary to popular belief, both men and women experience a full range of emotions but have become good at masking the ones considered to be inappropriate for their gender. It’s important to remember that we had feelings long before we ever had words. There is no right or wrong when it comes to how we feel, and it’s okay to have feelings we don’t understand.
It’s equally important to acknowledge and stay with our feelings, no matter how uncomfortable they can be, in order to release them and prevent them from becoming stored or repressed. Repression is a form of escape or numbing out, but that repressed energy will only come out later as we find ourselves consumed by high emotion. We may wind up over-reacting to a simple situation, making it much bigger than it actually is, as is often the case with road rage where something triggers a similar feeling to one that has been repressed.
All emotions are acceptable when expressed appropriately. Respecting and honoring our feelings for the valuable information they contain is vital to guide us through life. When we accept and subsequently release our emotions, distortion falls away to reveal a strong sense of clarity and that “big picture” perspective. Giving ourselves emotional freedom empowers us to live with completeness, to appreciate the meaning and richness in all of life’s experiences.
Physical Well-being
Physical well-being is vital to a healthy mind, body and spirit. Our bodies are designed to move, and we function at our best when we are active and eat well. Incorporating moderate physical activity in our lives and choosing fresh, wholesome foods more often helps us manage stress and maintain a healthy weight. Getting adequate rest is equally important for its restorative benefits, as is taking care of our overall health needs through regular dental and medical visits.
Our bodies will tell us what we need if we pay attention. Physical health is about respecting and taking care of our bodies through the lifestyle choices we make every single day. We are faced with many choices all the time, like the choice to have a donut and coffee as we rush to work or allowing time for a healthier breakfast of whole grain toast with almond butter, fresh fruit and yogurt. We can choose to slump on the couch at the end of the day (remote in hand) or get some fresh air with an evening walk.
Making poor choices will create undesirable health consequences, but these learned behaviors can be modified or replaced with healthier, desirable behaviors. Know that healthier habits can be incorporated into your lifestyle at any time; it’s never too late or too soon to make a change.
It is important to recognize that willpower does not work long-term and it will take some time and effort to reach optimal health. Society has a subtle, or perhaps not so subtle, way of seducing us into thinking we can get where we want to be overnight. We have become accustomed to getting what we want when we want it, but it just doesn’t work that way when it comes to making long-lasting changes with our health goals. You will need to make the decision and the commitment to get healthy and fit and let your actions guide you to a lifetime of health and happiness.
Spiritual Well-being
Spiritual well-being is about finding that deeper meaning in life and feeling a sense of purpose. It’s about discovering our passions and expressing them through our authenticity. It’s about feeling connected to something bigger than ourselves and trusting that our journey is perfectly timed for our soul progression. It’s trusting in the process of life and having an inner knowing that the experiences we have are the ones we need to be having; that everything is as it should be simply because it is.
Incorporating a consciousness of gratitude in our lives brings vital health, deeper joy, a sense of abundance and greater peace. Gratitude is about finding grace in the tiniest of things by being mindful and present in as many moments as we can throughout the day. Some simple ways to do this are to consciously feel life through our breath, to acknowledge the beautiful riches of nature, to contemplate the mystery and exquisiteness of life or anything else that brings contentment.
Allow yourself to relax, to feel your emotions, to do things that make you feel fully alive, and you will find your purpose and passion in life.
